A tip on participles

If you find that you are having trouble translating a participle, try using another possibility. For example, you are trying to translate a perfect passive participle as an adjective and it is not making sense, try putting it into a subordinate clause (i.e When he ran, instead of having ran). This may may help with some of the difficulties. Try it on your homework (p. 151 1-5: parse participles (tense, voice, case, number, gender).

Latin 3 quiz practice sentences

Download file "Chap 20 practice.doc"
Here are some sentence to practice with. Some are my own and some are out of wheelocks. Remember, look for the 4th declension ending and use the sentence to figure out the case (nom, gen, dat, acc, abl), number (singular, plural), and gender (masc, fem, neu). I will have a few more up tomorrow.

Have fun! I know you can do it!!!

Latin 3 4th Declension endings

You will have a quiz on 4th declension endings on Friday. Note that many of these repeat the ending -us, so know what ending is what case. Also, remember to know the neuter singular (all long u except for the Gen, which is, of course,- us) and plural (nom-a, gen-uum, dat-ibus, acc-a, abl-ibus).

Latin 1 Imperfect and Future Endings

Remember, forming the imperfect and imperfect tense is just as easy as forming the present tense. You take the second principal part of the verb (called the infinitive), remove the -re at the end, and add the following

Imperfect
s
1 -bam
2 -bas
3 -bat

pl
1 -bamus
2 -batis
3 -bant

Future
s
1 -bo
2 -bis
3 -bit

pl
1 -bimus
2 -bitis
3 -bunt

You should learn these endings and make them seem as familiar as the present tense endings you already know!

Latin 3 quiz et al.

The Vocab quiz has been moved to Wednesday November 9. Take the extra 2 days to study these words, and everyone should be able to start the quarter with a 20/20! For your paper, remember to make your argument using an introduction, three (or more) body paragraphs, and a conclusion that restates your thesis and summarizes your findings.

Upcoming Things: Latin 3

You will have a test Friday the 21st. Start studying NOW! A study guide will be up tomorrow, but for now review the passive voice endings for the present, imperfect, and future tenses. You have a quiz on that Thursday.

Sometime during the week after the test, we will be in the library doing research. Start thinking of a topic for you to write on.

Start looking at the perfect passive tenses. They are easy, but still require a bit of effort on your part. Remember, the participle must agree with the subject!

Upcoming Things: Latin 2

We will have a test Thursday the 20th. Your study guide you requested is posted. Remember, a little bit each day goes a long way.

We will have our first research day in the library the next lesson after the test. More forthcoming.

Don't forget those Personal pronouns!!! You will continue to see them!

We will be doing research on the 24th and 25th in the Tech Area, more forthcoming.

Keep reviewing those vocab flashcards! Repetition is your friend!
